Register of Brokers

The Register for Insurance Brokers and Insurance Advisers (Versicherungsvermittler und Versicherungsberater, or VVR) is available for access and can be consulted by members of the public.

Customers, insurance companies and – in cases relating to freedom of establishment/freedom to provide services, foreign authorities too – can find out whether an insurance broker/adviser is licensed by visiting the internet address www.vermittlerregister.info. The customer can clearly see from this entry whether a person is classified as a broker or as an agent.

The Register is open for inspection by the public. A search mask enables searches for an insurance broker/adviser by name or registration number.

The reason for the establishment of the central online register was the law setting out new arrangements under the law governing insurance broking, which came into force on 22 May 2007. It requires insurance brokers and advisors operating by way of a business or trade to be recorded in the Register. In addition, insurance brokers, middlemen and advisers generally require a permit.
